HMC Named Finalist For Microsoft Award Recognizing Outstanding Technological Innovation In Health Care
RICHMOND, Va. - February 14, 2007 - Health Management Corporation (HMC) today announces that it has been selected as a finalist for the 2007 MS-HUG (Microsoft Healthcare User Group) Annual Innovation awards. The honors are awarded by MS-HUG, a membership community of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, in recognition of breakthrough contributions being made by health care organizations and individuals. Such innovations can drive greater efficiencies in health care systems, help contain costs and, most important, improve the quality of patient care.
HMC is one of three finalists nationwide in the category of outcomes reporting.
The recognition comes as a result of HMC's unique approach in adopting Microsoft technology to further deliver innovative, meaningful and cost-effective results to clients and members.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., HMC recognized that optimizing the latest Microsoft technology could prove pivotal not only in its operations but also in how it reports on clinical outcomes. As such, HMC developed a paradigmatic Microsoft Reporting Services platform extending from its Microsoft SQL Server 2005 data warehouse and Microsoft Analysis Services 2005 OLAP platform. The new platform prompts a holistic Microsoft approach to data architecture enterprise-wide. Put simply, the technology allows HMC to significantly improve its report processing power, along with its ability to increase reporting accessibility and volume.
"Through the adoption and implementation of this technology, HMC's technical reporting platform has scaled to new heights in terms of efficiency, quality, and usability," says Clay Coleman, HMC's manager of business intelligence. Adds Coleman: "HMC has a best-in-class business intelligence development team that has leveraged the strength of this Microsoft technology with high-volume data and reporting solutions through innovative and creative technical approaches."
"Microsoft is working together with HMC to deliver valuable solutions that address industry needs," says Chris Sullivan, health industry solutions director, Microsoft's U.S. Healthcare and Life Sciences Group. "We're happy to know that HMC is utilizing Microsoft applications to help improve efficiencies in its programs and services that can lead to people living healthier lives."
HMC worked with Amentra, an industry leading business and technology consulting firm, to maximize utilization and effective implementation of the technology.
According to Paul Hurlocker, Amentra Program Manager, the collaboration proved to be a mutually beneficial one. "HMC and Amentra have a proven effective partnership," Hurlocker says. "Together, we have designed and implemented this innovative business intelligence platform to meet a critical business need as well as set the stage for anticipated future HMC growth."
Microsoft will announce its winners of the MS-HUG Healthcare Innovation Awards Feb. 27, 2007.
