Amentra's History

The Amentra founders recognized through their "real-world" experience that "traditional IT project consulting" left a lot to be desired.  Customers were tired of unsuccessful system efforts. Projects were continually not in sync with business needs. The client’s staffs were not equipped to support the outsourced system or underlying technology, and projects were usually not delivered on time or on budget.

The founders realized that traditional outsourced project arrangements transitioned poorly into the client’s production environment since existing client staff lacked knowledge of the languages and platforms and the internal workings of the outsourced systems design. They also lacked an understanding of the consultant’s specific business process.

On the other hand, if the clients decided to avoid the pitfalls of project based consulting and developed the system themselves, the founders discovered that formal technology training, and staff augmentation were not enough.  Management and development staff were usually left with academic knowledge, but often not the tool and skill sets necessary to successfully complete and to support critical enterprise system implementation initiatives that were built on complex, ever-changing technology.

Enterprise development with measurable results and a true mentoring approach

To meet these challenges, the founders joined forces to form Amentra (what was then known and incorporated as Distributed Objex, Inc.) in March of 2000.  Amentra was founded with the goal of filling the knowledge transfer void and eliminating the lack of integration with client stakeholder teams created by many traditional consulting firms.  By helping clients deploy mission critical business systems through a formal, experience proven mentoring and software development program, Amentra was able to develop a reputation for excellence by combining two areas that have historically been separate service offerings into a single solution:  deliverable-based project solutions integrated with IT Mentoring.

Red Hat Acquisition

In 2008, Red Hat acquired Amentra to enable consulting services offerings that complement Red Hat's product focus in the middleware market. Amentra continues to be run as an independent Red Hat company focused on delivering highly visible enterprise solutions that leverage our technology-agnostic systems integration services for SOA, business process management, systems development and enterprise data solutions.

Recognized by Gartner, our Open Source Solutions enable organizations to adopt open source technology and processes while mentoring on industry Red Hat and JBoss product implementation best practices. Learn more about the 2008 acquisition.

Using our iterative, hands-on approach, Amentra teams provide both informal and classroom training/insight throughout the project life-cycles, and  lead joint design and coding sessions based on valuable insight gathered in the business logic/process. This model allows Amentra and client teams to work in unison, and deliver a more thought out and scalable system.

The result?

By utilizing the Amentra model, Fortune 2000 and emerging growth businesses have not only built enterprise systems ahead of time and on budget, but have also received the benefit of having their management and systems teams re-tooled in best of breed technology and component based software development principles.
